Google Introduces Fitbit Edge as Midrange Fitness Tracker
Google is gearing up to launch a new fitness tracker called the Fitbit Edge, positioning it as a mid-range option between the screenless Fitbit Air and the feature-packed Google Pixel Watch 5. The device, which was previously teased during the Pixel 11 series presentation, features an oval display and shares similarities with the Fitbit Charge models. It offers up to seven days of battery life, access to a limited selection of apps like Google Maps and YouTube Music, and basic notification support, though not as advanced as the Pixel Watch.
The Fitbit Edge includes reliable GPS, altitude tracking via an altimeter, and automatic activity recognition, making it a solid choice for fitness enthusiasts who prefer a more focused device without the distractions of a full smartwatch. The tracker will be available in several colors, including black, green, and orange, with potential additional options in the future. The design features elongated buttons on both sides and a back panel with sensors and band-replacement mechanisms.
Google aims to release the Fitbit Edge soon, likely this month to capitalize on the holiday season. While the exact price is uncertain, it is expected to fall between $149 and $199, based on the pricing of previous Fitbit models. The device will support both Android and iOS, giving it an edge over the Pixel Watch 5, which is limited to Wear OS and Android compatibility.
