Google Invests €13B in Finland's Nuclear-Powered AI Infrastructure
Google is investing €13 billion in AI infrastructure in Finland as part of its first non-US nuclear deal. The tech giant has signed a 22-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Fortum, securing output from the Loviisa nuclear plant.
The investment spans four sites: an expansion in Hamina and new developments in Muhos, Vaala, and Kajaani. Google's deal is not just about hardware acquisition; it also involves grid improvements, battery storage, and clean energy generation.
Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, said the strategic importance of this move: 'This is Google's first nuclear energy deal outside of the United States, and we think it's a really important cornerstone to everything that we are doing here.'
