Google Invests Heavily in Finland's Digital Infrastructure
Google is set to invest €13 billion ($15 billion) in AI-related digital infrastructure across Finland over the next two years. The investment, which represents Google's largest single investment in Europe to date, will be split between data centers and other associated investments in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala.
The planned facilities will support 7,000 jobs annually once operational, with Finnish operator Elisa providing connectivity for the new data centers. This includes existing data center operations in Hamina, which Google purchased in 2009 from a former paper mill.
Likewise, US-based Liberty Global has agreed to sell VodafoneZiggo's tower assets to a joint company owned by funds managed by DigitalBridge, TD Greystone Infrastructure, and L&G for €669 million ($779 million). Proceeds will be used to reduce debt across Ziggo Group.
Telecom Italia (TIM) has welcomed an improved takeover bid from state-owned Poste Italiane. The increased cash offer of €1.97 per share comes as TIM aims to create a more integrated digital, telecom, and financial operator with the deal.
