Google Locks Down Pixel Phones with New Quick Settings Security Feature

Google has finally addressed a long-standing security flaw in its Pixel phones. The issue allowed anyone to access Quick Settings from the lock screen without unlocking the phone, which could be problematic if the device is lost or stolen.

The new feature, called 'Require unlock for Quick Settings,' is available in the latest Android Canary 2609 build and can be found under Settings > Security & privacy > Device unlock. Once enabled, it prevents users from changing key connectivity settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile data without first confirming their identity with a PIN or biometric authentication.

The change matters because someone with access to the lock screen could switch off these essential features, making it harder to track the device. Google's Find Hub uses Bluetooth to help locate devices even when they're offline, so this flaw is particularly concerning for users who rely on this feature.
