Google Mandates AI Disclosure for Commercial Ads
Google has introduced a mandatory AI disclosure for commercial ads on its platforms. The company is adding a label to My Ad Center that identifies ads created or edited with AI, starting with ads across Search, YouTube, and Discover.
This move aligns Google's policies with those of Meta, which has operated a similar 'AI info' label since before. The label will appear under the 'how this ad was made' tab in My Ad Center, allowing users to block or report ads, review advertiser identity, and see why a particular ad was served.
The new policy requires advertisers who use external AI tools outside of Google's ecosystem to manually flag that AI was involved. This will introduce a compliance step for enterprise advertisers managing campaigns in-house or through agencies.
