Google Maps Glitch Causes Traffic Chaos in Perthshire Villages

A Google Maps glitch caused chaos in Perthshire villages when it mistakenly diverted traffic from the A9 to a single-track road. The issue occurred on Friday, with Transport Scotland posting on X that Google Maps was falsely reporting the A9 as closed and recommending an alternate route.

Local residents reported seeing vehicles, including campervans, drive down the narrow road at excessive speeds, causing congestion and safety concerns. Joanne Boyne, a resident of Guay, said the traffic made it difficult for her to get to work and left her worried about trying to leave her home.

Laura Hansler from the A9 Dual Action campaign group contacted Google Maps after being alerted by a member of their team in London. She stated that while problems on Google Maps occur occasionally, this incident was particularly concerning due to the narrow single-track road and high speeds involved.
