Google Maps Outperforms Apple Maps in Philippine Road Trip Test
To settle the debate between Google Maps and Apple Maps, a traveler embarked on a four-day motorcycle adventure across the Philippines, testing both apps on challenging routes. The journey included mountain passes, long highways, and hazardous sections to push the apps to their limits. In the first leg from Dingalan to Baler, Google Maps stood out by offering multiple route options, including a scenic but difficult mountain path, while Apple Maps overlooked the more adventurous choice.
The second stage, from Baler to Cervantes via Tabuk, tested the apps on a six-hour trip through treacherous terrain with landslides and rough roads. Google Maps again proved superior by providing a more logical route after adjusting its default settings, whereas Apple Maps suggested an impractical detour that added hours to the journey.
By the third leg from Cervantes to San Juan, both apps performed similarly, offering accurate routes with minor differences in estimated times. However, the traveler concluded that the key advantage wasn't just faster predictions but the depth of information provided. Google Maps' ability to present alternative routes and explain its choices made it the more reliable companion for complex road trips.
