Google Meet Gets Simplified Conference Room Sharing with New 'Room Display' Mode
Google Meet has introduced Room Display mode in beta for Google Workspace users. This feature is designed to simplify meetings in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) meeting spaces without dedicated conference hardware kits.
The Room Display mode leverages Chromium's Window Management API to automatically split the meeting interface into two synchronized windows when a laptop is connected to an external screen. The shared view on the external display shows remote participant video tiles and live presentations, while keeping private controls and browser clutter off-screen.
Users can access their presentation slides, speaker notes, and other controls from their laptop screen in private, while participants see only the clean and distraction-free shared view on the wall. This built-in privacy shield ensures that in-person meeting attendees do not see sensitive information.
