Google Messages Brings RCS Video Calls, Easier Voice Notes

Google is upgrading its RCS (Rich Communication Services) chat experience in Google Messages. The company has been working on introducing video calls to RCS chats, allowing users to initiate a call directly from their conversations. This feature was introduced by GSMA earlier this year as part of the RCS Universal Profile 4.0.

According to Android Authority, which discovered the details while digging through the latest Google Messages beta, the app is preparing for an RCS video call confirmation screen with labels such as 'Call' and 'Cancel'. The app also checks if a recipient can receive an RCS video call, suggesting that Google is working on both the interface and support for this feature.

Meanwhile, Google Messages is also testing a new way to start recording voice notes in chats. Currently, users need to tap the waveform icon, then the microphone icon, or long-press the waveform icon. However, the new method could let users start recording with just one tap on the waveform icon.
