Google Messages Bug Spins Group Chats into Multiple Threads

Google's Messages app has been plagued by another issue, as users have reported that group chats are being split into separate threads. This bug, which was first spotted on Reddit and confirmed by Google, causes existing group conversations to create new threads with the same participants.

The problem doesn't appear to be a recent development, as reports suggest it has been happening for months. Users have complained that even individual RCS conversations are splitting into multiple threads, with replies from the same contact appearing in a new conversation.

One user reported having seven separate chats involving the same people, while others noted that deleting duplicate conversations doesn't seem to resolve the issue. However, using Messages for Web or Phone Link can sometimes combine the separate conversations.
