Google Offers $150,000 Payment for Salix Data Center Review
Google has proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for its potential data center project in Salix, Iowa. The five-page document outlines a plan for reviewing and assessing development costs, which Google would cover with up to $150,000 in payments over three months. Council members questioned whether the payment amount was sufficient and if the time frame was acceptable.
At Wednesday night's council meeting, around 30 people attended, including two representatives from Google. The company has operated a multi-building campus in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and is developing another campus in Cedar Rapids. Mayor Kevin Nelson stated that council members asked several questions about the MOU, including whether they would be obligated to refund or pay back Google any money.
The Salix City Council will address the memorandum of understanding at its next meeting scheduled for October 14. The council may also tour one of Google's existing facilities in late October or early November as part of the exploratory process, which could involve members of the community.
