Google Officially Teases Android 18 Graphics Features
Google has officially confirmed that Android 18 is in development, and it will bring new graphics features to the platform. The confirmation comes from Google's official schedule for the Android Dev Summit, which will take place on October 28-29. One of the sessions at the summit is titled 'Elevate your apps with the latest graphics features in Jetpack Compose and Android 18,' and it promises to show developers how to use new effects like mesh gradients and progressive blurs without sacrificing battery life or frame rates.
Mesh gradients allow colors to blend across multiple points, while progressive blur gradually increases the blur across an area. These features already exist in some form through Jetpack Compose, but Android 18 will take them to a new level. The summit's schedule doesn't reveal other Android 18 features yet, but it does promise that Android leadership will host a keynote covering the latest Android features and updates.
