Google Pixel Drops Update Schedule Shaken Up: What's Next for Users
For Google Pixel users, regular updates have been a staple of their experience for years. The first-ever Pixel Drop was announced in December 2019, adding features like Duo calls and automatic call screening.
The Pixel Drops were initially released on a quarterly schedule, but Google shifted away from this formal update schedule in October 2023 with the launch of the Pixel 8. Instead of releasing updates every three months, Google now deploys them as soon as they've completed necessary tests.
Despite stepping away from the regular update schedule, the rate of Pixel Drops has increased through 2024 and 2025, albeit irregularly. The latest Pixel Drop arrived on September 15, 2026, leaving a gap until December for the next update.
Ahead of the next Pixel Drop, several new features have been teased but not yet rolled out. One notable feature is Device Help, which will supposedly make troubleshooting easier by allowing users to explain their problem and receive a solution from Gemini.
