Google Play Unveils New Performance Requirements for Apps and Games
Google Play is introducing new performance requirements for apps and games to improve device efficiency and user experience. Starting in February 2027, apps will need to meet thresholds for dynamic memory usage, bitmap memory usage, and DEX code optimisation.
The changes aim to address hardware constraints and prevent excess memory use, system slowdowns, and unexpected app closures. To help developers prepare, Google is rolling out new diagnostic tools in the Play Console, including dynamic memory and bitmap metrics in Android Vitals.
Apps that fail to meet the thresholds may face reduced visibility and publishing capabilities on Google Play. Additionally, from April 2027, apps supporting user logins will be required to use Zero-Tap Sign-In, which automatically restores sign-in states when users switch devices.
