Google Plunks Down 13B Euro Bet on Finnish AI Infrastructure
Google is investing €13 billion in Finland to expand its AI infrastructure by 2027 and 2028. This significant investment will go towards building data centers and supporting digital infrastructure, making Finland a key player in Google's European operations.
The expansion will take place across several locations in Northern Finland, including Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala, with new capacity being added to the existing Hamina data center. This project is expected to support over 37,000 jobs nationwide, including around 16,000 construction roles.
Finnish suppliers such as Elisa and Nokia are already involved in the expansion, providing connectivity and networking services respectively. The company has also signed agreements with Fingrid and Business Finland to select sites near existing grid infrastructure and has secured a 22-year deal with Fortum tied to the Loviisa nuclear plant.
