Google has announced the general availability of Meridian GeoX, its open-source geographic experimentation tool. The company claims that this tool allows for cheaper and more reliable testing, with a 31% reduction in budget costs compared to other open-source equivalents.

The GeoX tool uses native multicell execution, which enables several treatments to be compared against a single shared control group. This removes the need to set up a separate control for every test.

Google also highlighted the importance of transparency and speed. The open-source codebase provides users with complete visibility into design choices and methodologies. The JAX framework has reduced design generation times by over 94% compared to other solutions.

The results of GeoX experiments can be fed directly into Google's open-source budget model, which previously relied on statistical patterns in historical data. This loop enables the model to nominate which channels would benefit most from being tested.
