Google Renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' for US Users

Google has renamed Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' on its Maps interface for users in the U.S. This change follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last week, which instructed the Department of the Interior to make this update.

The renaming is part of Google's long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary between countries. According to Google, app users will see 'Lake America' if they are located in the U.S., while Canadians and others outside the U.S. will still see 'Lake Ontario.'

This move has sparked a response from various parties, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who set up a billboard at the Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby to remind people of the lake's original name.
