Google Slapped with €403M Fine for GDPR Violations
Google's Irish subsidiary has been fined €403 million for violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in how it used personal location data.
The fine, imposed by an Irish regulatory body, centers on Google Ireland Limited's use of location data between May 2018 and February 2020 through its Web & App Activity, Location History, and Location Accuracy features.
The Commission accused Google of using location data from users to influence them with ads or to infer their interest, and found that the company 'failed to be able to demonstrate compliance with the lawfulness, fairness, and transparency principle regarding its processing of personal location data.'
