EU Slams Google with Record-Breaking Fine Over Location Data Breach

Google has been hit with a massive fine for violating EU location data rules. The Irish Data Protection Commission fined Google €403 million, which is equivalent to $463 million, for mishandling user location data.

The investigation found that Google did not lawfully or fairly process location data in users' Web & App Activity and Location History settings.

Regulators also discovered that the company failed to be transparent when processing personal data in its Location Accuracy feature in the Android mobile operating system.

This is the fourth biggest EU privacy fine issued by the Irish watchdog, following a €1.2 billion fine for Meta and fines for TikTok.
