Google Slapped with $463 Million Fine for Location Data Mishandling
Google has been hit with a hefty fine for breaching EU location data rules. The European Union's data privacy watchdog, Ireland's Data Protection Commission, said an investigation found that Google mishandled users' location data in two settings: Web & App Activity and Location History.
Web & App Activity tracks browsing and search history, while Location History maps places visited with mobile phones. The commission stated that Google did not lawfully or fairly process this data, resulting in a $463 million fine.
The fine is equivalent to 403 million euros. This ruling comes as part of the European Union's efforts to protect users' personal data and ensure companies adhere to strict privacy rules.
