Google Slides Now Imports Encrypted PowerPoint Files in Beta

Google has rolled out a beta feature for its Slides application that allows users to import PowerPoint files as client-side encrypted content. This means that files are encrypted on the user's device before being imported into Slides, ensuring interoperability with Microsoft Office without compromising client-side encryption.

The new feature is part of Google Workspace admins' eligible licenses and can be applied for through a beta program called CSE Office Interop. Users who sign up will gain access to importing PowerPoint files as encrypted content in Slides.

The beta program also covers other Microsoft Office editing, export, import, and takeout features. Organizations already registered for the program have immediate access to the feature across their domains, while admins on other Workspace tiers cannot join the beta at this time.
