Google Snatches Spirit Airlines' Internal Data for $10M AI Training
Alphabet's Google is acquiring internal business data from Spirit Airlines for $10 million to train its AI models and develop new products. The data includes employee emails, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, calendars, marketing, productivity, and operations data. This material will be de-identified before the sale closes, ensuring no customer information or personally identifiable information is included.
The bankruptcy judge will review the sale at a hearing on Wednesday, as Spirit Airlines has been selling its assets since shutting down operations in May due to high debt and fuel costs. A competing bid of $7.5 million from Mercor, an AI data company, was also submitted for consideration.
