Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) recently hosted its Summer Robotics Camp in July, sponsored by Google. The camp brought together over 60 rising 7th and 8th grade students from across DeKalb and Jackson counties to introduce them to the world of engineering and mechatronics through hands-on building projects.

The camp challenged students to build a remote-controlled robot from scratch, which they assembled and then learned to operate. In the afternoons, campers participated in races around NACC's new Workforce Skills Training Center. Google employees volunteered their time to assist the students in building and testing their robots.

NACC President Dr. David Campbell praised the opportunity for local students to explore their interests in robotics and other STEM fields. The college's Dean of Workforce Development and Skills Training, Barbara Kilgore, organized the event and conducted the training.
