Google Teams Up with Terradot on Large-Scale Carbon Removal Project in Brazil

Google has partnered with Terradot to deploy a carbon elimination project in Brazil. The initiative aims to reduce methane emissions from rice paddies and remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

The project will be developed mainly in Rio Grande do Sul and cover over 200,000 hectares of land. Terradot will work on reducing methane emissions associated with rice paddies through a mechanism called enhanced weathering, which involves applying minerals to agricultural land to accelerate natural processes that capture CO2.

According to the agreement, Terradot expects to generate credits equivalent to a reduction of 1 million metric tons of methane by 2030. The timeline for carbon removal is longer, with a target of 1 million tons of credits by 2040.
