Google Testing Redesigned Lock Screen Customization for Pixel Phones
Google is testing a new way for Pixel phone users to customize their lock screens through the Wallpaper & Style app. The latest Android 17 QPR3 beta reveals a redesigned lock screen customization page, which currently appears mostly blank but includes buttons for adjusting wallpapers, colors, the clock, widgets, and a new 'media' category. The purpose of the 'media' option remains unclear, but it may relate to media playback controls on the lock screen.
The existing Wallpaper & Style app already allows users to customize both the lock screen and home screen by swiping between them. The current lock screen settings include options for the clock, shortcuts, notifications, and additional settings. It remains to be seen whether the new menu will fully replace the existing one or if it will be integrated alongside it.
While the new interface promises a more centralized approach to lock screen customization, it’s uncertain whether this change will result in a more intuitive experience or if it’s simply a redesign for the sake of it. Google has not yet provided details on when or if this feature will roll out to users.
