Google Tests AI-Powered 'Call for Me' Feature to Simplify Business Calls

Google is testing a new feature called 'Call for Me' that allows users to make business calls on their behalf. The feature, powered by Gemini, can ring businesses, navigate automated menus, and wait on hold before speaking with staff.

The experiment is currently available in the US to Pixel 11 owners who have a Gemini subscription and are running the beta version of Google's Phone app for Android.

Call for Me is designed to help users complete everyday tasks that can take up too much time, such as checking if a product is in stock or making a reservation at a restaurant.

The feature uses Gemini to introduce itself and handle the conversation, including working through automated phone menus and waiting for a human representative. Users can follow the interaction through a live transcript and step into the call whenever they want.

Google is refining the technology before expanding availability, as real-world phone conversations can be unpredictable and challenging for an AI system.
