Google Tests AI-Powered Tool for Creating Custom STEM Simulations
Google Research has been experimenting with AI-generated STEM learning interactives for teachers. This innovative technology uses generative user interface (GenUI) to create custom, interactive simulations aligned with a teacher's curriculum and learning objectives.
The system proposes a set of learning objectives, which the teacher can edit and approve before the interactive is generated. Each activity breaks down into progressively more difficult levels, providing students with challenges, hints, feedback, worked solutions, and subject-specific tools.
A public library of over 30 AI-generated interactives is already available in English, covering biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, mathematics, and physics. Teachers can request new simulations tailored to their curriculum, learning goals, and grade level through the Google for Education Pilot Program.
Google has also built self-correcting evaluation loops into the generation process, which assesses whether levels match approved learning objectives, increase in difficulty appropriately, and function as intended. The system checks basic mechanics, visual features, and even tests extreme inputs to ensure the activity is functional and effective.
