Google Tests Space-Based Data Centers and Partners on AI Computing
Alphabet's (GOOGL) latest innovation involves launching a satellite to test whether data centers can operate in space. The satellite contains four of Google's artificial-intelligence chips, called Tensor, which are designed for complex computations. This experiment aims to determine the feasibility of running AI workloads on satellites.
Additionally, SpaceX's AI unit has been in talks with Microsoft (MSFT) to lease server capacity. This move could potentially provide a new computing infrastructure solution for Microsoft.
On another front, Google Cloud has announced the general availability of Spanner Queues for transactional messaging in AI agent workloads. This development is part of Alphabet's efforts to enhance its cloud services and support AI applications.
