Google Told to Simplify Third-Party App Store Installations

Google has been ordered by a court to simplify the installation of third-party app stores from Google Play. The order comes as part of an ongoing dispute between Google and Epic Games, which claims that the current process is too complicated and lengthy.

Epic Games argues that even though it has been possible to download third-party app stores directly from Google Play in the US since July, finding them can be difficult due to poor search results. For example, searching 'app store' often yields results for retailer apps like Walmart instead of the desired stores.

The company also claims that users must press multiple buttons before installing an app, prolonging the process. Judge James Donato agreed with Epic Games' arguments and ordered Google to make changes within one week.
