Google Turns 27: A Journey From Search Links to AI Overhaul
Google marked its 27th birthday by bringing back its first logo in a nostalgic Doodle, taking users to 1998. The company was incorporated on September 4, 1998, but 27 September became its symbolic birthday.
Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1995, Google started as a search engine that ranked pages using links. From dorm rooms and rented garages, the company grew to become a technology ecosystem used by billions.
Google's story is one of evolution, driven by changing user behavior. The traditional '10 blue links' limitation led to the creation of Google Images in 2000. This instinct has now brought Google to its biggest technological pivot since the smartphone era.
The company says queries in AI Mode have more than doubled every quarter since launch. Its redesigned Search can work across text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs. The old search box is learning to listen, see, reason, and act.
