Google Turns Local Knowledge Panels into AI-Powered Listings

Google has started turning local knowledge panels into AI Overview listings. The change is noticeable when searching for businesses on Google Maps, where the top of the listing now displays 'AI Overview' followed by a 'Show more' button.

The button expands to reveal an AI-powered chat interface similar to Google's AI Mode feature. This allows users to interact with the business's information in a more conversational way.

While some may appreciate this new format, others, like Ben Fisher, who first reported on it, are not fans of having their businesses described by AI. Fisher notes that he prefers human-written descriptions over automated ones.

The integration of AI into Google's local knowledge panels is a step towards making search results more interactive and user-friendly.
