Google TV Freeplay Expands to Over 10,000 On-Demand Titles
Google TV Freeplay has expanded its offerings to include over 10,000 free on-demand movies and shows. According to Victoria Wen, product manager at Google, this new addition allows users to watch titles whenever they want, rather than waiting for a linear slot. The library includes studios such as A24 and Lionsgate, with examples like Lady Bird, Seventeen Again, and Hell's Kitchen.
The live channels have also grown, surpassing 300 free options across various genres. New additions include Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network, World of Love Island, and The Martha Stewart Channel. Users can access both the live guide and on-demand titles from the Google TV home screen, but ads will remain a part of the experience.
While this may be seen as an alternative to traditional paid streaming services, it's essential to note that availability is limited to U.S. users and requires a Google Account plus a fast connection. This move by Google aims to provide a free, ad-supported option for those who prefer not to download separate apps or incur additional monthly bills.
