Google Unveils Thompson Center Redevelopment Plans

Google has released new designs for its redevelopment of Chicago's Thompson Center, which it purchased to serve as its office and community destination.

The plans, developed in collaboration with Architecture Plus Information (A+I), include expanding the central atrium beneath a cascading staircase with terraced seating and retail space. The redesign aims to maintain the building's role as a public gathering place while providing space for offices, retail, food, and cultural activities.

The centerpiece of the plaza will be a 30-foot sculpture titled Vector, created by artist Sanford Biggers. The work draws on patterns and imagery found in antique quilts from the Illinois State Museum and Chicago History Museum.
