Google Vids Goes Free: A New Era for AI-Generated Video
Google has opened up its browser-based video editor, Vids, to all account holders, allowing anyone with a Google Account to produce full HD clips at no cost.
The move, announced September 23, comes as OpenAI permanently shut down the last remaining access point to its competing Sora video models, roughly 24 hours later.
Vids now runs on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, a model that converts text prompts, photos, audio, or existing footage into new video in 1080p resolution, matching the standard used by most streaming platforms.
The tool also includes editing capabilities that previously required paid software, such as scene extension, which maintains consistent lighting, characters, and setting when lengthening a clip, preventing jarring visual shifts.
