Google Wallet Returns to Challenge Apple Wallet on iPhones
Google is reportedly working on bringing its Google Wallet app to iOS devices. This move could potentially put up a strong fight against Apple Wallet, which is currently the dominant mobile wallet solution for iPhones.
The evidence of this effort comes from strings spotted in various Google apps, including Quick Share Extension and Google Play Services. These strings specifically mention 'Google Wallet' and 'iOS,' suggesting that the company may be developing an iOS-specific version of the app.
Google originally offered its wallet app on both iPhone and Android devices in 2013 but later merged it with the Google Pay app, which was available on both platforms. However, when Google sunsetted Google Pay in 2024, it left iOS users without a native Google-branded wallet app.
