Google Wins Big as Judge Tosses Out Antitrust Suits
A U.S. federal judge has dismissed two antitrust lawsuits against Google, citing that the media companies bringing the suits failed to provide sufficient evidence of the tech giant's wrongdoing.
The suits, filed by Penske Media Corp. and education tech company Chegg in September 2025, alleged that Google's practice of scraping content from other websites for its AI Overview feature was a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act.
U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta of the District Court for the District Of Columbia granted Google's motions to dismiss the suits in a 41-page memorandum, stating that the media companies' claims did not establish 'particular antitrust violations.'
Mehta suggested that Congress or regulators should consider the economic impacts of working with a tech giant like Google, rather than bringing their grievances to court.
