Google's aggressive push to integrate AI into schools has led to a significant decline in student test scores, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. More than 60 teachers, school officials, parents, children, and clinicians were interviewed for the story.

The reliance on AI-assisted tools, such as Google's search feature, has caused students to become 'academically and emotionally dependent' on technology. This is a concern shared by former Google research scientist Mikel Rodriguez, who stated that 'we're doing this experiment on an entire generation on cognitive development, with no control group.'

The rise of AI in schools has also been linked to a worldwide decline in reading scores. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reported that student test scores were at their lowest average in 25 years, with the US experiencing a 14-point drop compared to 2022.
