Google's Pixel 11 Series Tensor G6 Chip Isn't 2nm, But Still Packs a Punch
Google's Tensor G6 chip inside its new Pixel 11 series smartphones was believed to be a 2nm chip, but that claim has been debunked by Google's VP of Hardware, Peng Yu-Chun.
In an interview, he confirmed that the Tensor G6 is actually based on TSMC's 3nm process. This revelation means it doesn't hold the title as the first 2nm mobile chip, which was previously held by Samsung's Exynos 2600 announced last December.
While a 2nm process has its benefits, Google claims that the Tensor G6 still offers significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Tensor G5. The new chip delivers 50% more TPU compute and an upgraded CPU compute with up to 30% better power efficiency. However, it remains to be seen how these improvements translate into real-world performance.
The Pixel 11 series includes four smartphones: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, each with varying storage and RAM configurations.
