Google's September Update Locks Out Some Users

Google's latest Pixel update has caused a major headache for some users. The September 2026 update was meant to bring new features, security improvements, and bug fixes, but it has introduced a serious lock-screen problem for a small number of users.

The issue affects Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 8 Pro owners, who are experiencing problems with pattern unlock and PIN authentication. Some users have reported that their device's lock screen resets after only two dots when trying to unlock it, while others have encountered issues with entering their PIN.

Attempts to resolve the problem have been unsuccessful for some users, who have tried rebooting, Safe Mode, connecting a mouse, and reinstalling the same software build. However, a factory reset eventually restored access for one user, albeit at the cost of erasing locally stored data.

Google is reportedly aware of the complaints via its PixelCommunity Reddit account but has yet to officially comment on the issue. The company recommends erasing the device for users who are locked out and advises them to restore their backed-up data through their Google Account.
