Google's Thompson Center Revamp Adds Sculpture and Atrium Makeover

Google has unveiled new renderings of its Thompson Center redevelopment in Chicago. The tech giant plans to open the renovated building, which will house around 2,000 employees and other tenants, in 2028.

The center's plaza will feature a 30-foot sculpture by artist Sanford Biggers, titled 'Codex.' Inspired by traditional quilt patterns, the sculpture will incorporate designs drawn from historic Illinois quilt collections at the Illinois State Museum.

The redevelopment also includes an expanded central opening and a cascading staircase in the 17-story atrium. The atrium and plaza will feature restaurants, retail space, and gathering areas open to the public.
