Gray Revival: Nashville Homeowner Brightens Up Her Dining Room

Meredith Svoboda and her family moved into their new Nashville home in April. On her final walk-through, she photographed the dining room, envisioning a brighter future for the space.

The room was initially dark and had a constant yellow hue, thanks to an outdated light fixture and paint job. Meredith decided to tackle these issues head-on by repainting the walls with Sherwin-Williams' 'Peppercorn,' a slate gray color.

In addition to painting, she replaced the old chandelier with a more modern globed one. The family already owned a handmade table built by a friend, Target chairs, and a vintage-inspired rug. To add some playfulness to the design, Meredith hung curtains with a ripple pattern.

The total cost of the renovation was $825, including the prices of previously purchased items like the rug and chairs. Meredith notes that painting can make a huge impact on a room and is easy and affordable.

She also recommends adding plants to balance out the color palette. In her dining room, she used small amounts of greenery to bring life to the space and counteract the blues and grays.
