GTA 6 Ditches Famous Florida Attractions for Broader Atmospheric Experience
Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto VI is set to feature an open world inspired by Florida, but it seems that some of the state's most famous attractions may not make an appearance. According to a recent interview with Game Informer, Rockstar senior vice president of environment art Paul MacPherson explained that while the team drew inspiration from Florida, they didn't simply recreate every famous location.
MacPherson stated that 'even if we don’t include those exact locations, everything we’re building is designed to give players the complete Florida experience.' This means that each location was chosen based on its contribution to the gameplay and story, rather than its recognition value. For example, while a large-scale theme park like Disney World may not be included, an explorable zoo with over 170 animal species - including rare and legendary variants - will be featured.
The team had to balance the inclusion of various elements such as terrain, towns, architecture, landmarks, scenery, plant life, and rock formations. Each one was carefully considered in order to create a rich ecosystem that captures the atmosphere of South Florida. The game's environment artists worked closely with the design and narrative teams to ensure that every aspect served a purpose.
