Home Depot Beats Earnings Estimates Despite 'Frozen' Housing Market
Home Depot's latest quarterly results exceeded Wall Street expectations, but challenges persist in a 'frozen' housing market. The company reported adjusted earnings of $4.92 per share on a 6% year-over-year rise in revenue to $47.86 billion in the second quarter.
The retailer's comparable sales grew by 1.7%, beating analysts' projections. Despite this, Home Depot maintained its full-year outlook, anticipating a 2.5% to 4.5% rise in sales and adjusted EPS growth of up to 4%.
CFO Richard McPhail attributed the 'frozen housing market' conditions to consumers being hesitant about committing to expensive home improvement projects. To adapt, Home Depot is focusing on smaller DIY projects and expanding its delivery services, including a new three-hour express delivery option for thousands of products.
