Home Depot Foundation Renovates Detroit Firehouse Outdoor Space
The Detroit Fire Department and the Detroit Public Safety Foundation have expressed their gratitude to The Home Depot Foundation for renovating the outdoor space of Engine 55, a firehouse celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
The renovation was made possible by a nearly $20,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation. The project aimed to provide a welcoming and comfortable space for firefighters and EMS personnel to relax and recharge between emergency calls.
A total of approximately 30 volunteers worked together to bring the project to life, assembling furniture, building a gazebo, painting a shed, and improving landscaping on the west side of the firehouse. The renovated outdoor area now features new metal picnic tables, benches, Adirondack chairs, and a grill area complete with a new grill, flattop, and grill table.
The project also included the installation of a new shed, painted fire-engine red, which is outfitted with heavy-duty shelving. Additionally, volunteers added outdoor cornhole boards, an outdoor fan, and two fancy new office chairs to the space.
