Honeywell Aerospace Settles $2M+ Cybersecurity Claim Under DoD Contract

Honeywell Aerospace Inc. has agreed to pay over $2 million to settle allegations of failing to meet cybersecurity requirements under a U.S. Department of Defense contract.

The settlement involves the company's business unit, which allegedly did not follow the required cybersecurity rules on one of its networks between April 2020 and December 2023.

The government alleged that the business unit submitted claims for payment while failing to comply with the contract's cybersecurity standards, related to National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-171 (NIST SP 800-171).

The case was brought under the False Claims Act, with Rachel Tenney, a former Honeywell employee, filing the lawsuit as a whistleblower. She is set to receive $375,823 as her share of the recovery.

The settlement does not mean that Honeywell was found liable in court, and the DOJ stated that the claims resolved by the agreement were allegations only, with no determination of liability.
