Honeywell Aerospace and the Phoenix Aviation Department have partnered to test runway safety technology at three Valley airports.

The study, which begins this month and concludes by year-end, aims to expand surface alert technology to ground vehicles.

This move comes after a plane collided with a fire truck on the runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport in March, killing two pilots and injuring dozens more.

Feyereisen said pilots and ground vehicle operators work in fast-paced, high-stress environments and should both be prepared to avoid worst-case scenarios.
