Honeywell Validates Satcom Antenna for BVLOS Operations
Honeywell Aerospace has successfully validated a new satellite communications antenna designed for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations. The lightweight antenna provides continuous connectivity, enabling real-time flight control and conflict avoidance.
The technology was developed at Honeywell's European R&D center in Brno, Czechia as part of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Iris Global programme. It integrates with the company's VersaWave satcom system, allowing switching between satellite and terrestrial networks for uninterrupted command-and-control.
Czech industrial partners contributed to prototype production, while Brno University of Technology supported radio-frequency validation. The antenna was tested in partnership with Viasat using its satellite network under real flight conditions at Budkovice Airport.
