HRSA Approves Major Pharma Companies for 340B Rebate Model Pilot
The US Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has approved 10 major pharmaceutical companies to participate in the 340B Rebate Model Pilot Program. The participating companies are AbbVie, Amgen, Astellas Pharma US, AstraZeneca, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Pfizer, and Teva Pharmaceuticals.
The program aims to begin on January 1, 2027. However, the American Hospital Association (AHA) has expressed concerns about the new program, stating that it will impose massive administrative and financial burdens on hospitals serving vulnerable patients.
A spokesperson for the AHA said, 'The AHA remains deeply concerned that HHS has chosen to move forward with a 340B Rebate Model Pilot Program despite the overwhelming evidence that it will impose massive new administrative and financial burdens on hospitals that serve America’s most vulnerable patients.' The AHA is reviewing the materials and considering all available options to prevent the flawed program from going into effect.
