Huang Demands AI Labs Take Responsibility for Uncontrollable Models

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has weighed in on the debate over the risks of artificial intelligence (AI), saying that if AI companies can't contain their models, 'we have to shut the labs down.'

In an interview with Ezra Klein, Huang dismissed concerns about AI posing an existential threat to humanity, but emphasized the importance of responsible innovation.

He suggested that companies should not release products that they cannot control or align with safety standards, and if a problem cannot be solved, then it's better not to ship the product at all.

'If you're going to build a self-driving car, let's say it's a robotaxi, and there's a really difficult condition... we have no idea how to train these cars,' Huang said. 'What's the answer? Don't ship it.'

Huang made it clear that AI labs should take responsibility for their creations, and if they cannot contain them, then the labs should be shut down.
