Huawei's chairman Guo Ping has revealed the company's ambition to become the Nvidia of ICT, leveraging its strengths in computing and connectivity for AI-driven growth.

In a rare internal Q&A session with new employees, Guo emphasized that Huawei views AI as humanity's 'last technology revolution', and it needs to gain a competitive advantage in this revolution.

Like Nvidia, Huawei wants to provide the underlying technology for AI models, rather than relying on large language models (LLMs). The company's Ascend or Kunpeng servers are designed to run any large models, according to Guo.

However, Huawei acknowledges that some of its businesses, such as device and autonomous driving, will require their own LLMs due to gaps in open-source models. Similarly, the deep integration of cloud and AI means Huawei Cloud will also need to develop LLMs to stay competitive.
